SNOW DAY AT OLA

This is a shot on Bertus St. looking toward the site where OLA used to be.

I cannot for the life of me remember one snow day when we didn't have to go to school. I do remember that the bus from Greenhills never made it. How I envied those Greenhills girls! But the darn city buses always came eventually. It was a treat, though, to go to Friends in Lockland to have a hot chocolate while we waited for the school bus to come. What are your memories of snow days?

Hi again,

I just saw Mary's comments on snow days. I, also, do not remember staying home on those days. I picked up the "78" bus on Anthony Wayne at Hartwell Avenue. The thing I remember the most was another girl who waited for the bus there and she never had her ears covered in the winter. They were always a bright red. Brr! Couldn't have been an OLA girl! We were smart enough to know to keep our ears covered. Carol

Mary--that blog is great! I hope our class does something like that. I don't know if I told you about Tom (and Bob Conrad's) 50th last year also at Clovernook. Great place for a reunion, I thought. But they had no way to reconnect in the way you're doing.
As You know, I'm part of the Greenhills gang. Believe me, we took our life in our hands when our bus driver, who was also always drinking, would take us down Gray Road during a snow storm. He always claimed it was safer than Old Winton because we'd be the first vehicle on it. the snow day rides were straight out of The Simpsons. If no other Greenhills/Finneytown-funnytown person reports in, feel free to quote me.

Hi Carol,
Yeah, I always wore one of those long scarves that went around my head crossed in front and then went over the shoulders and down the back. Wish I had a picture of that! Waiting for the bus on Hartwell Avenue must have been a pain - no restaurants nearby. Mary
Welcome, Gayle. Always nice to have a class of '59 person commenting - and a Finneytown/Funnytown person to top it all off. It's really a funny picture now to think of you careening down Gray Road on a snow day with Homer Simpson as the bus driver. Mary
